Does CBD oil help with injuries?

Contemporary research into the role CBD oil can play in healthcare is well underway.

Cannabidiol (better known as CBD oil) has been extracted from hemp plants and used as a natural remedy for centuries. The relative concentration of CBD to a carrier substance can vary from producer to producer.

What is largely unrefuted, is that in certain circumstances it does offer interesting medicinal advantages.

CBD oil is not a psychoactive substance, but it does work to temporarily alter the brain’s chemistry by interacting with receptors (the brain’s messenger system). There is increasing evidence that it can even stimulate the brain to produce its own naturally occurring cannabinoids.

For these reasons, CBD oil is increasingly being accepted into treatment protocols for a wide range of health issues worldwide. This includes seizure relief, sciatic nerve pain and lessening the symptoms of neurological conditions such as MS and Parkinson’s Disease.

Supporters of the use of CBD oil are also keen to explore its potential to help in the treatment of injuries.

Injury recovery priorities

Healing following an injury relies on pain management, proper rest and good mental health support.

CBD oil has been found to help relieve pain, particularly pain associated with swollen or damaged body tissues and joints.

This anti-inflammatory value clearly warrants further investigation, as it could prove to be a sustainable and natural source of pain relief for people who have been injured, or those undergoing surgery.

There have been clinical studies carried out to review the effect administering CBD oil would have during surgical procedures. One study reported that there was evidence to support the belief that “sensorial and affective dimensions of pain may be differentially modulated by CBD”.

Helping the injured to rest

There are other benefits to be explored too. CBD oil’s effect on receptors in the brain doesn’t just manage pain but also sleep.

Recovering from an injury can be particularly tough for sports people, or anyone who lives an active life. Taking CBD oil promotes rest and can support healthy sleep patterns. This gives the body time to repair itself and avoids the negative impact of disrupted sleep.

Positive recovery from injury

CBD oil also has an impact on the neurotransmitter that regulates mood and behaviour.

For this reason, it shows promise in tackling depression, anxiety and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), conditions which are sometimes associated with rehabilitation following a substantial injury.

It is clear to see from all of this, that CBD oil can offer a source of support for people who have been injured, while natural healing and other therapies repair any damage.
