Can CBD oil help with insomnia?

If insomnia is having a detrimental effect on your life, you may have considered CBD oil as a way of helping you sleep. CBD is thought to have a number of health benefits, including easing the symptoms of anxiety and stress. But is it a useful treatment for insomnia, or will it actually exacerbate the problem?

Many associate cannabis with creating a feeling of relaxation and drowsiness, but the use of CBD oil is more complex than simply making you feel tired. In fact, CBD oil may make you feel more alert, so how does it help with sleep disorders?

The answer is that it can be particularly useful for people whose sleep disorders are caused by anxiety. One of the major contributors to insomnia is stress, and preliminary researchhas shown that CBD oil may improve the way your brain responds to stress, which in turn helps you to relax. Are there any risks?

A report from the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2017 found that CBD doesn’t appear to have the potential for abuse or harm, but that people should use it with caution. The WHO state there are no known risks associated to CBD and that there is no evidence to suggest that there is any recreational benefit or it is addictive. The vast majority of CBD oil users have no negative side effects, but there are some who experience dry mouth or drowsiness with the long-term effects remaining unknown.

There is a lot of evidence that indicates CBD oil can help with insomnia. By helping you to deal with anxiety and stress more effectively, your mind can be more relaxed and better prepared for good, healthy sleep. Keep in mind, however, that different people will have different responses, and it may not be as helpful for some as it is for others. Be mindful of the way CBD oil can interact with other medications; always consult your GP before trying CBD oil, particularly if you already take a prescription medication.
